COMMUNITY WORK
We believe the well-trained family physician of the future will
understand the important role a family physician can play in his/her
community. Part of our curriculum therefore includes required longitudinal
projects in residents' second and third years with the assistance
of their faculty advisors. The Malden community is an ideal laboratory
for learning this aspect of family medicine. Our residency was founded
in large part to improve the health of a population that historically
has had below-average indicators of health status.
In the past several years the Malden city government, the Malden
business community, federal agencies, and non-profit organizations
have collaboratively developed an extensive network of community-based
organizations with whom our residents have the opportunity to work.
There's still a lot to be done to improve health in Malden and our
other service communities; our residents are playing a significant
role in these efforts.
