Behavioral Science Faculty

Martin Cohen, PhD - is a clinical psychologist with private practices in Medford & Newton, MA. As a member of the residency faculty, Dr. Cohen develops our Behavioral Science curriculum and leads the PGY2 Balint Group. Dr. Cohen is originally from Hewlett Harbor, NY and earned his undergraduate and doctoral degrees from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.. He completed his clinical training at the West Haven VA Medical Center in West Haven, CT. He is particularly interested in couples' therapy and divorce mediation. His family includes his wife Liz and children Rachael (age 23), Julia (age 18), and Emily (age 17). Besides being with his family, he enjoys running and golf, although not at the same time.

Alan Smith, PhD - is a clinical psychologist with a private practice in Burlington, MA. Alan develops our Behavioral Science curriculum, currently leads the PGY3 Balint Group, and coordinates the annual residency retreat with the Behavioral Science faculty. Dr. Smith is originally from Springfield, MA, and received his undergraduate and doctoral degree from Boston University. His professional interests include couples and family therapy, hypnosis, and developing a model to teach physicians basic family therapy skills. His family consists of his wife Fran and his two sons Adam and Joshua. When not working, he enjoys tennis, running, and fly-fishing. After his family, fly-fishing and riding his Harley are his true passion.

Clinical Pharmacy Faculty

Jennifer D. Goldman-Levine, Pharm. D., CDE - is an Associate Professor of Pharmacy Practice in the School of Pharmacy-Boston at The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS) and a Clinical Instructor at Tufts University School of Medicine. She received her B.S. in pharmacy at MCPHS in 1989. Following graduation she practiced as a community pharmacist, a consultant to three Intermediate Care Facilities, as well as teaching General Chemistry at Malden High School's Adult Education Program. Prior to continuing her education she served as an ambulatory care preceptor to MCPHS and Northeastern University pharmacy students. She graduated magna cum laude from the Doctor of Pharmacy Program at MCPHS in 1996. In 1997 she completed a Pharmacy Practice Residency with an emphasis in ambulatory care at the Boston VA Medical Center. She then joined the faculty at MCPHS practicing in primary care at the West Roxbury VA before joining the Tufts University Family Medicine Residency Program as a clinical pharmacist and a certified Diabetes Educator in January 1998.

She currently teaches and coordinates various therapeutics topics and classes at the college while precepting Pharm.D. students at the health center. She is developing an elective in diabetes to be offered at MCPHS. Her practice and research interests include diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, patient education and the scholarship of teaching. She is currently involved in several ongoing research projects in the areas of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and patient and student education. She has publications in the area of diabetes and has given many invited presentations at national and international pharmacy and medical conferences in her areas of expertise. She gives multiple Community Outreach programs such as "brown bags", diabetes screenings, cardiovascular disease, and how to afford your medications. She developed and runs a Patient Assistance Program at the health center for low-income families who can not afford their medications. Students from MCPHS rotate with her, seeing patients in the aforementioned chronic disease states. Family Medicine Residents may choose elective time with her as well.


Social Work

Deborah E. Glantz, LICSW - is the clinical social worker for the CHA Malden Family Medicine Center. Prior to this position, Debbie worked for ten years at The Malden Hospital primarily as the maternity and OB-GYN clinic social worker. She also worked at New England Memorial Hospital and The Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. She received her MSW from The University of Maryland School of Social Work and Community Planning, Baltimore, MD. Debbie lives in Lexington, MA with her husband, Mitch. They have two children, Rachel (23 yrs.) and Josh (20 yrs.) who will be a junior at Syracuse University.
