WELCOME - FROM OUR PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Dear Future Family Physician:
Of
all the careers available to bright people, why did you choose to
become a doctor? You may have decided upon family medicine as a
specialty, but more importantly, what kind of physician do you want
to be? I'm sure with all the essays you've had to write for medical
school admission and now residency application you've considered
these questions. What do you want out of a residency program? And
what other things besides your work are important to you?
These are questions that we encourage our residents to ask throughout
their three years with us and beyond. We have quite a diverse and
extremely talented faculty with all the academic credentials and
skills, but none of us can supply our residents with the answers
to these very basic questions. We provide our resident physicians
excellent medical facilities, quality teaching, a diverse patient
population, and state of the art technology in a brand new family
medicine center. We are part of a nationally recognized primary
care and community medicine- oriented academic healthcare system,
the Cambridge Health Alliance, which gives our residents incredibly
rich training opportunities. While these are very important, we
don't think these are the most important factors in the quality
of our residency program. Rather, it is encouraging our resident
and faculty physicians to remember and call upon their own sincere
and deeply meaningful desire to take care of people which ultimately
matters most.
The Tufts University Family Medicine Residency at Cambridge Health
Alliance offers you an opportunity to train where there is a real
commitment to excellence in a warm, supportive environment. As one
of only 14 family medicine residency programs selected nationally
to participate in the "Preparing the Personal Physician for
Practice ("P4") initiative we are also committed to providing
you an innovative training program that provides you the absolute
best in education and clinical training. Becoming a knowledgeable
and caring family physician is one of the greatest things to do
with one's life. Doing so in an academically challenging program
with good people committed to the ideals of our specialty makes
it even better. On behalf of the entire Tufts family, I invite you
to visit us personally to see for yourself the energy and spirit
of our residency program and our department. Please also revisit
this website periodically to see what's new in this very exciting
time for family medicine at Tufts. And if you're applying to residency,
now's your chance to come join the fun!
