CHA researcher co-authors JAMA study on impact of cash benefits on health outcomes

Benjamin Le Cook, PhD, MPH, director of CHA's Health Equity Research Lab, co-authored a study just published by the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) that explored the effect of cash benefits (universal basic income) on health care utilization for residents in Chelsea, Mass. The study, which followed nearly 3000 residents, including CHA patients, found that $400 monthly cash benefits helped alleviate a number of social risk factors, significantly reducing ED utilization and improving access to specialty care.more
