Coming in Person?

  • In-Person Visits and Masks

    We are glad you are coming to see us!

    To protect you, and other patients, please STOP for our screeners when entering any CHA building.

    Our safety standards:

    • Wear a proper mask. All patients, visitors and staff must wear a proper mask when entering a CHA building or clinic. Masks with vents, gaiters or bandanas are not allowed. A Medical Level 2 mask will be provided to each patient or visitor to Cambridge Hospital, Everett Hospital or the Somerville Campus. Patients are required to wear it over their existing mask vs. change their mask upon entry. For ambulatory sites, patients will have access to masks via a kiosk or by request from the registration desk.

    • Use hand sanitizer when you enter the building.

    • Answer our questions about COVID exposure or symptoms. (Do you have a fever/chills, sore throat, cough, shortness of breath, body ache, headache, or loss of taste or smell?)

    • One visitor is allowed into the waiting room for every in-person provider visit. Visitors may be allowed into the exam room by provider discretion. Please ask your care team about this.

    Until the risk related to COVID-19 pandemic has been eliminated as determined by CHA Infection Control and state, local, and public health authorities, CHA will adopt the following practices for the safety of our patients, staff and providers:

    For in Person Visits
    1. Patients coming to an outpatient clinic are allowed to bring one support person with them into the waiting room.  Provider discretion will be utilized to determine if the support person can be in the exam room.
    For Patients in the Hospital

    For COVID-positive patients

    Inpatient hospital visitors are not allowed to visit COVID-positive patients except in special circumstances. Exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis in collaboration with clinical teams. Special circumstances and patient population in which visitors and companions may be permitted, include, but are not limited to:

    1. end of life care for hospitalized patients
    2. labor and delivery and postpartum
    3. pediatric patients on our child and adolescent assessment units
    4. pediatric and geriatric patients in need of assistance for ED visits 
    5. patients with intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities or other vulnerable populations identified by DPH in the inpatient or ambulatory setting.

    For COVID-negative patients

    1. Visiting Hours are 1pm - 8pm.
    2. Visitors must be fully vaccinated, symptom-free, masked at all times, and will be asked to show their vaccination card and proof of identification.
    3. Visitors not complying with masking will be asked to leave.
    4. Visitors under age 18 are allowed by exception only.
    • Intensive care units - one visitor per day, maximum of 30 minutes. 
    • Med/Surg units W1 and 6N - one visitor per day, maximum of 30 minutes. 
    • Maternity - one visitor at one time, only one may stay overnight.
    • Child and Adolescent Psychiatry - two visitors per day, in a room/area that does not contain another patient. 
    • Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry - one vaccinated visitor for 30 minutes each day, for those patients with extended lengths of stay, in a room/area that does not contain another patient.  
    • Emergency Department- no visitors unless exceptions granted by the clinical team
    If a Visitor Cannot Visit a Patient
    • The front desk staff will first apologize for this decision and then provide the visitor with a brief explanation about why they cannot visit at this time.
    • The front desk staff can provide the visitor with the phone number for the unit if they have additional questions.
    • Every effort will be made to provide visitation via video technology for virtual visits for hospitalized patients.
